slug translation implemented, needs review

Any suggestions on how to improve qTranslate? Post here!

Some posts ago, marco.delpercio says:
I implemented those parts about categories slugs. And now you can choose category slug in any enabled language directly from the category edit form.

Can you tell me where can I write the category slug for each language? I see only fields for category translations.

I'm using
WP 3.2.1
qTranslate 2.5.24
qTranslate META 0.9.1
qTranslate slug with Widget 0.4 (this is the one marco.delpercio has started, right?)

Thanks

It should already be supported: after all it's the query/domain/prepath language code that matters.
But if you'd like to make it fully work and submit translated slugs into the sitemap, according to http://www.neoegm.com/tech/wordpress/plugins/qtranslate-support-for-the-google-xml-sitemaps-generator-wordpress-plugin/, I guess editing should better take place on that plugin.

Since the qtranslateslug plugin, after removing default qtranslate values, adds filters to page_link, post_link (tag and categories aren't yet implemented),
replacing every qtrans_convertURL with qTranslateSlug_convertURL could be enough (if not even needed at all), but:
-check if function exists, if not then run the normal qtrans_convertURL
-this function doesnt really collect translated slugs at the moment

So we have to test the results

Did you test the result?

Hi,

I also have the problem that the Google XML Sitemaps for qTranslate does not work correctly with the qTranslate slug plugin. The sitemap is generated but it does not generate the URLs inserted into the qTranslate slug plugin correctly. Also the chosen language of the WP Admin tool affects the sitemap creation.

E.g. if my qTranslate primary language is chosen (Finnish) the sitemap URLs for the page /kissa/ look like this:
http://www.domain.com/kissa/
http://www.domain.com/en/kissa/ -> Should be http://www.domain.com/en/cat/

If I Change the Admin language to English the sitemap URLs for the page /kissa/ look like this:
http://www.domain.com/en/cat/ -> Should be http://www.domain.com/kissa/
http://www.domain.com/en/cat/

I only use pages for this site so I don't whether the plugins work for posts etc.

I have the following istallation:
- Wordpress 3.2.1
- qTranslate 2.5.24
- qTranslate slug with Widget 0.4
- Google XML Sitemaps for qTranslate 3.2.5.1

Has anyone had similar problems and if so how did you overcome them? What did you change and where?

Thanks!

did anyone find the solution to make slug translation work with /%category%/%postname%/ permalinks structure?

This would be very relevant for me too. Without translated slugs, I will not be able to use this plugin, which is awesome in every other aspect.

currently I have

http://www.website.com/kunden <- german
http://www.website.com/en/kunden <- english url with german slug. This sucks! A fix would be most appreciated, I would gladly donate 100$ for that feature!

Did someone found the answer yet?

marco.delpercio wrote:Hi again guys

I noticed that using default qtranslate language switcher didn't work when you choose custom multilingual slugs so I added qtranslate slug language switcher and moreover I fixed a bug with slugs of parent categories. That is: in previous version 0.5, when you assigned a multilingual slug to a category it was successfully translated yet if this category had any parent categories, the parent categories were not translated by the plugin. Now this version also translates the slugs of parent categories.

Marco Del Percio

Hi Marco,
thanks for this new version, I will try it with my new website.

I noticed, I'm not yet able to reproduce the bug, that sometime the slug is not saved in the db and also that the post is not using correctly the slug.

For the second issue mentioned before is like:

When I display the category
http://www.website.com/en/category/cat-english/

When from the previous list I click on a post.
http://www.website.com/en/category-ita/2011/title-ita/ (*)

Both category and title of the post are with a correct slug in english. Also if I try to access to the post with the category in english, I'm redirected to the (*)

Any tip on how to fix it?

Luca

I had problems with slug translations with pages, posts worked perfect for me, but i had to review the plugin, because in my current wordpress version (3.3.1) didn't work, i showed 404 error for every page.

Here is the http://en.codatavern.com/qtranslate-slug-with-widget-wordpress-plugin-fix/, it worked for me, i hope it helps
