qTranslate Services - What's that?

Postby Qian Qin » Fri Feb 20, 2009 8:46 pm

With qTranslate 2.3, a new feature called "qTranslate Services" have been added. So what does it do?

Well, with qTranslate Services, qTranslate can finally do what the name suggest: Translations. Translation with qTranslate Services is as easy as two mouse clicks. Simply enable it under "Settings" on "Language Management".

So what's the difference between qTranslate Services and other translation plugins? Well, qT not only supports free machine translation, but also professional human translation! The Services are provided by Web-Translations, where Ford, MTV and many other companies get their translations from.

Feel free to test the service and report any problems here.

Hi Qian!

I've enable it just to see what happens.
But when I try to disable it, the options page loads very slow and doesn't save my option anymore. So I have to remove the option record directly in the database.
I'm using wp 2.7.1 and qTranslate 2.3.1.

Same problem here with WP 2..7.1. and Qtranslate 2.3.3 - I activated Enable qTranslate Services and it disappeared the Save option - so I am not even able to go back to my old configuration.....attached a screenshot....I tried it with FF3 and MSI 7....both the same problem....

Any solution?

Do you have a documentation of how the machine translation works?

I tried different wordpress language plugins and was not satisfied with any of them. Qtranslate is ok if one wants to translate everything oneself manually.

I had a serious problem with machine translation:

it screwed up some main terminology that occurs in every single post and category (on a real estate sales site it translates "country house" into "siege" in a war, and "farm" into "finance ministry"), rendering everything totally useless.
So I would need either an "informed" machine translation that would accept a special dictionary of special terms, or at least the option to do the translation once on demand and then the possibility to hand-edit the machine translation, and the assurance that the hand-edit will not be screwed up by an inadvertent new translation.

So basically, if qtranslate could offer machine translation "on demand" and hand correction of the machine translation, that would be awesome.

Of course, that still would not be the perfect solution for my terminology problem, where 4-5 extremely important technical terms get screwed up consistently in every single post.

Google translation allows corrections and suggestions but does not remember them. Unfortunately google translations does not seem to have the intelligence to remember, in its translation, that the site deals with real estate and not with warfare.

How long may it take? I am still waiting 24 hours....Is there any way to switch off "Servicios de qTranslate" - I guess this funktions makes problems...I can not get back to the initial settings - The save button disappeared....
How to switch off: [qtranslate_services] => 1

PS: I got it - just renaming qtranslate_services.php to qtranslate_services.php1 or whatever... - it's not an elegant solution but it works.

what you need is professional translation. lol... seriously. The translation services currently used is offered by Email-Translations and they use also use Google translation. machine translation is a pretty much impossible thing to do right now (I just had an exam concering them), so I strongly suggest using professional translations for such texts. They are translated by one person and proofread by a second person.

I'm not making a translation engine here, only forwarding services and making them accessible easily.

If it's taking that long, there probably has been some error. On my installation, it is done instantly, but I think it might take up to 3 minutes.

On one of my sites with qTranslate this code causes a lot of php debug errors. I don't need it, so deleted the source file qtranslate_services.php and now get no more errors.

The error appears early before the page output begins. In 2.3.4 the line number is 106 of qtranslate_hooks.php, reference to unset variable $qconfig['language']. The calling code is each one of the $qs_error_messages assignment statements in qtranslate_services.php.

Also there is an unrelated (potential) reference to unset variable on line 62 of qtranslate_core.php. I fixed it with isset:

Code: Select all
$q_config['url_info'] = qtrans_extractURL($_SERVER['REQUEST_URI'], $_SERVER["HTTP_HOST"], isset($_SERVER['HTTP_REFERER']) ? $_SERVER['HTTP_REFERER'] : '');

I had problem with the "Translate to" (configured with the fixed machine option). got the error wrong ISO code soemthing. Turns out that my language (Swedish se_SV ) had the wrong language code, should have been sv and not se (se denotes the country and not language). So perhaps update i a feature version of the plugin. I have solved by manually editing the code from the admin panel. old posts I had to correct from mysql panel (works but timeconsuming).

Thansk for a great plugin!
