A few days ago, I received a letter from T-Com confirming my order of T-Home Entertainment Comfort with VDSL 25. I never ordered it, especially not on September 10th, where I had been in China. Anyway, I didn’t want VDSL 25 when I already have VDSL 50 and I didn’t want IPTV either because I have Cable. That’s what I told the T-Home Hotline yesterday and now they offered me Entertain Basic with VDSL 50 + ISDN for € 63.95. I checked their website and saw that this combination isn’t even possible. It seems that this is only a special combination for customers who request it. Well, it’s perfect for me.
After some problems I had with VDSL at the beginning, it now is pretty stable. Even though the highest download speed I ever got was around 3 MB/s, uploading files with over 1 MB/s is just great! Browsing the net has become really comfortable.

Modifying your PPC (PocketPC) software is called “cooking” in the PPC world. People who change the software are the “chefs” and the development environment is of course the “kitchen”. But the result is called ROM.

Telekom, T-Com, T-Home or whatever they are calling themselves now is my ISP for VDSL 50. So if you have read my previous entries, you already know that it is not working as expected. First, my download rate is less than 20 Mbit, which is okay if you have VDSL 25, but not if you are paying € 10 more every month to get 50 Mbit. I’d be satisfied with 35-45 Mbit, but that’s not the speed I’m getting.

Today, I had a fun discussion with my friend Frank about Tablet PCs (convertibles, no slates) and Windows Vista. I have been watching the development of Microsoft programs and found them to be more and more tablet-friendly. The software released this year – Windows Vista and Office 2007 – support a lot of things specially designed for easy access with a tablet pen.

As my girlfriend decided to go on a bike tour with her little sister next week, a new bike was needed. Also, her old bike, which is her little sister’s bike now, needed to be tuned street safe and easy to drive. So first, we went to “Real” a supermarket chain. They had some really cheap bikes from € 99 up to € 300. We found one for € 229 with seemed pretty nice and bought it. There was no service for installation, so I had to make the bike work. The bike was called “Travel 400″ and had a full chrome look with front suspension and a hard tail. We decided not to get one with Full suspension because we needed a robust carrier.

Here is the next round in headphone testing at Gravis. This time, I brought my iriver clix with me. The iriver clix is the successor of the iriver U10. It actually looks just like the U10. The only difference is that it has a better chip and more space (up to 4 GB). Iriver mp3 players have excellent sound quality and superior bass, which is extremely important for Hip-Hop listeners like me. Quite disappointed with the sound quality of the iPod, I wanted to know how good the Shure earphones really are. Read more »

When you walk around in China, you can find people walking around and collecting empty bottles. I always thought this phenomenon only exists in not-yet industrialized countries. The people are so poor that collecting those bottles and selling them to a garbage dealer allows them to make enough money to survive. But during the last few weeks, I began seeing the same phenomenon in Berlin, Germany.

This is a very sensitive topic that will split the readers’ and writers’ opinions. Some of us may have already been confronted with it and this makes it hard to have an impartial view on it.

It’s probably not very hard to see that sadly, the nice project “Love to Lead” has been sabotaged and it has become impossible for the real contributors to win. A € 3000 prize for a simple blog article will lure cheaters and there is no way to prevent this.
